Brain Benders (Board Games K-1st)
This Mensa Select series is for children that have shown a curiosity in games that involve competitive and cooperative play. Your gamers will be introduced to classic games and strategy basics all designed to promote fun and linear mathematical concepts, working memory, and perceptual and spatial organization. Throughout the program, participants will focus on practicing good sportsmanship while simultaneously having fun trying to outwit and out-strategize their opponents. Games may include: Spot it!, Mancala, Senet, Ice Cool, Qwirkle, Dizios, Sleeping Queens, Chinese Checkers, Tsuro, and Catan Jr.

Mind Masters (Board Games 2nd-3rd)
This problem-solving series is for 2nd and 3rd grade students that have either completed Brain Benders or want to challenge their strategic thinking. We introduce these gamers to a wide range of game genres from ancient strategy to modern board games. Throughout the program players will explore methods of problem-solving that use deeper strategy elements and multidimensional thinking. As always, participants will also focus on issues of good sportsmanship while simultaneously trying to outwit and out strategize their opponents. Games may include: 7 Wonders, Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, Scrabble, Boggle, Sushi Go!, Splendor, Dragonwood, Machi Koro, Ticket to Ride, and Small World.

Strategy Specialist (Board Games 4th-8th)
Our most advanced board game program is for veterans of our After School programs and older kids that are interested in more complicated strategy games. A wide range of game categories are explored in a progressive curriculum with the intent of playing a complex variety of mechanics, subject matter and strategies. Students will continue to develop their reasoning strategies and good sportsmanship as they play both competitive and cooperative games. Games may include: Captain Sonar, Mysterium, Dominion, Go, Stratomatic Baseball, Letter Tycoon, Power Grid, and Terraforming Mars.

RPG Explorers (RPGs 3rd-4th)
For students brand new to roleplaying games (RPGs), this course introduces students to the imaginative play and group storytelling inherent in RPGs. Beginning with group worldbuilding and simple rules, this course will graduate into playing a short campaign, in an age-appropriate system. Systems may include The Quiet Year, Lasers and Feelings, Honey Heist, Hero Kids, Kids on Brooms, and more.

Students in this class explore how tone impacts RPG play, as well as the ethical, moral, and interpersonal shades of gray that can exist in these games and in real life. Chess I (Beginner)
Chess 1 is designed for students new to the game of chess. Students are taught basics ranging from how pieces move to how to organize openings, midgames and endgames. Emphasis is on enjoyment of the game so we utilize additional abstract strategy games to break up our lessons and keep play fresh.

Card Strategy Specialists (Magic: the Gathering 3rd-8th)
This curriculum will go over the basics of card game strategy, honing in on games that cover specific topics of Magic: the Gathering, such as deckbuilding, probability, and archetypes. Through this focus, students in this class will be challenged to learn familiar strategies and mechanics in unfamiliar contexts. Their mathematical knowledge and critical skills will be improved by the strategies they learn from these games, and over the course of the program students will become stronger and more passionate players of Magic: the Gathering.
Kids will get to keep cards that are used in the course of our program!

Little Learners (Pre-K)

Changes/Rescheduling/Credit/Refund Policy:
Absences: If your child will be absent for afterschool, we are happy to offer four Walk-In Play credits for each session. In order to request and receive these credits you must notify us by noon on the same day of your child’s absence by email to [email protected]. Only email notifications/requests can be considered.
Changes: We know that schedules change, and we are happy to try to make changes to your registration with 7 days advance notice, if availability allows. We cannot make incremental schedule changes (i.e., one session out of a Full Trimester’s tuition). Please email [email protected] with change requests.
Any other rescheduling, credits, or refunds are issued at management’s discretion.
