Chess I (Beginner) and Chess II (Intermediary)
Chess 1 is designed for students new to the game of chess. Students are taught basics ranging from how pieces move to how to organize openings, midgames and endgames. Emphasis is on enjoyment of the game so we utilize additional abstract strategy games to break up our lessons and keep play fresh. Chess 2 is for students that express interest in diving deeper into the strategies and sequences that make chess exciting and playing a little more competitively. At this level of play, students are introduced to chess notation and concepts such as forks, pins and checkmate sequences.
Participants must be entering grades kindergarten to 4.
